Thanks to all

We sincerely thank everyone that came out to our release party last night.  We were overwhelmed by how many of you were there and very grateful for the enthusiastic support. Planning for a release party is a little stressful and hectic, but you all made it completely worthwhile and wholly rewarding.  Also, double thanks to those who bought a CD!

In addition, shout outs to Tom from These United States, Drew from First Rays, and our inimitable horn section, Kriston and Tim. You guys were amazing and “Toe The Line,” “Don’t See It Coming,” and most especially “Oh, Backwards” will never sound as good to us again.

Jeff and Marie’s Wedding

WeddingI was also at a wedding last weekend. My friend Jeff got married in wine county in California, and it was lovely. Jeff asked me to play before the service, and during the processional, and I was happy to oblige. So that makes two weddings that I have not ruined.

When I arrived, Jeff and Marie where planning on pre-recorded music before the service. I volunteered to play some classical pieces before, similar to what I did at Darren’s wedding. They agreed, I think that is what they wanted the whole time, but didn’t want to ask. Anyway, Jeff told me to start about 20 minutes before the service. This was much earlier than I planned on, and I didn’t have 20 minutes worth of music planned, maybe about 15. So I just started repeating myself. Fortunately, I don’t think anyone was really listening to me. Then the wedding started about 5-10 minutes late. I started to get nervous when it looked like I was going to start on the third go round, but fortunately the best man came out and told me to get ready for the procession.

So the procession begins, and I am sitting behind the audience. They all stand up when the bride comes out. This is a lovely tradition, but unfortunately it left me unable to see when the bride reached the front (there was no altar). So I kept on playing until my mother looked back and gave me the cut sign.

All in all it was a lovely wedding and weekend. Jeff is one of my oldest friends, and I am very happy for him and Marie. Tommy has some other highlights over here.

Also, I will wear whatever damn hat that I want to wear, when I want to wear it.

Pre-show blog fight

Yesterday at practice we were discussing the fact that we haven’t had good public band fight on the blog in a while.

With that in mind, let me just say that Charles is freaking jerk. Aaron and I are so tired of his condescending bullshit and over-inflated ego. He thinks because he bought an Indiana Jones hat for $4 in NY a few months ago that he’s the shit. Well he’s not. And if he wears that f***in hat to the release party tomorrow, I’m going to punch him in the face, take the hat, and burn it onstage.

Am I kidding?

Come to IOTA tomorrow to see.

A Reminder

Poster

We are releasing our CD on Friday at Iota, and you should be there. The concert is $10.00 and we go on first, I think. To whet your appetite a little more, here is a picture from our practice last night.

Horns?

p.s. I can’t seem to make these pictures appear in the right places and it is really pissing me off.

Exciting times

Big things are happening in City Veins land.  Our new CD is now available for ordering online! Check it out just in the right hand column ——->

Also, we’re one week away from our CD release party at IOTA.  We’ve got some special guests lined up like Tom Hnatow of the amazing DC band These United States and rumor has it we may have a horn section for some songs as well.  It’s going to be a pretty awesome show.

(Sidenote RE: City Veins Fun Facts - It’s kind of surreal to me that Tom and These United States are having so much success around here.  Tom grew up about a mile from me in the middle of nowhere in rural PA. I played in a band with his brother for about 3 years. In high school, his brother and I helped Tom win a battle of the bands at his college.  It’s pretty crazy and pretty cool to me how big his band is in DC having known him from back in the day.)

Anyway, happy Friday.  It’s been a busy one for me - I wanted to write a full post here but won’t have time until later.
