We’re Gonna Make It After All July 16
On behalf of the boys, I’d like to thank people for the incredible tuesday night support. People brought friends, friends brought friends, it was great. Now we don’t have to cut ties with you forever. I’m sure the club was happy with the result, and I can tell you that The Dig really appreciated the number of people in the audience for them. It was a really good showing.
As I said on-stage last night, the Black Cat constitutes a mark of progress for us. The fact that it was the backstage is really inconsequential; the fact is that we are now on their radar, and in this town that’s all you can really ask. I’ve dreamed many, many times of playing in that club, going backstage and having an actual dressing room. The Black Cat is on a totally different plane than the other non-9:30 clubs in this town in terms of professionalism, and for a band that acts very professional at every club we play that means a lot. They give you a room, they stock your fridge full of water, soda, and more beer of your choice than you can drink. They honor contracts; hell, they LOOK at contracts, which no-one else does. They treat you the way you want to be treated; not like stars, but like someone coming to do a job and make some money for your club. Most clubs treat you like interns rather than as partners, and it really should be more like the latter.
The hope for us is that we can now move to a better night or the mainstage. I don’t think we’re being naiive when I say that’s an absolute possibility (definitely maybe). We were encouraged that there were some actual fans out last night; people that weren’t our friends but like our band. Hopefully that will spread.
We’ve been really happy over the last few months about how far we’ve come, and we owe it to our very loyal friends who have stuck with us, spent their money and supported us while we work to get better as a band. All of the whooping and yelling after songs helps the non-friends in the room feel a good vibe, and that gets them interested in what we’re doing. Maybe the progress isn’t as evident to you as it is to us, but any sort of progress is really encouraging. The fact is that I’ve been in other bands for much longer periods of time that never made that sort of progress, so we’re encouraged by recent events.
