Sources?

The next time Aaron posts I think he should cite his sources and have footnotes since the last one read like a Master’s thesis. I don’t know what half of those words mean. Do you have any visuals? I learn better visually. Graphs maybe?

If you would like me to quote sources next time I will, though I didn’t need to look up anything to write the post (except for whether weltanschauung had one U or two. I thought it was one…)
Maybe you have stumbled upon what really bothers me: the assertion that music criticism and fandom should not necessarily involve the use of your brain, and that the purely sensory is every bit as valuable as the cerebral.
And it also might be improper to claim that you have wide musical tastes, only to subsequently rule out an entire genre of music in a claim that it is “over-rated”. In fact, though you didn’t state it, in addition to rap you also hate R & B and Hip-Hop (there is a definite difference between Rap and Hip-Hop. Ask your kids about any group and they will categorize it for you and explain why. I have conducted this experiment). So it may be a misnomer to characterize your musical tastes as broad.

Ok, I don’t like rap or hip hop. I don’t hate all R & B, but I do hate Mary J. Blige because of the overdone nature of the singing in this category. But since I like pretty much everything involving melody and actual instruments, and lots of computer generated sounds, I can stand by my assertion that I have a wide variety of musical tastes. I also like Tupac and some Eminem, but pretty much the rest of the rap/hip hop world would be better off not existing as far as I’m concerned. As far as others are concerned, inner city youths and people who can relate to the hip hop world, I’m sure it has lots of value. Musically though, to me, it has none.
